Our story
As a B Corp, Upslope Brewing Company pledged to place high priority upon employee, community and environmental wellbeing. In the spirit of that pledge, we have committed to continual improvement of our social and environmental performance– for example, we are always working toward increasing the efficiency of our resource use. Brewing beer uses a lot of water and energy– which remains true regardless of how efficiently we use it.
For this reason, we began exploring onsite solar power as a means to cut our emissions. We installed a 25 kW array in the fall of 2018. It powers the meter that services our big cold room, where we store all of our beer once it’s been packaged. Averaged over the course of the year, this solar array is projected to produce 90% of the electricity for that meter and, thus, about 9% of the brewery’s total electricity.
We currently have plans to install a second array later this year, which will service our primary production meter. We hope to significantly reduce our carbon footprint with a combination onsite renewables and continued efficiency projects.
